The moral imperatives to peace and security…
Without getting into the garment of linguistic and religious exegesis and in order to make a balance viewpoint, it is very imperative to put things into perspective from the outset.
In order for the US to live up to its name – the only 21st century remaining super power in the world, she must address her economic-cum-political involvement in the Middle East as well as the rest of the third world countries.
US needs to reshape and invigorate its policies in the following areas: petroleum interests, military and development aids and the use of economic sanctions especially over Iraq, Iran, Libya, Pakistan and Cuba etc. as of prime importance to redress the “extreme time bomb” waiting to explode.
The so-called “forces of civilisations” are no more than America’s inept disregard and failing to change to new realism based on justice and equality.
These are forces that would threaten America’s hegemony not only in the Middle East, Far East and Africa, but also even in Europe.
The hatred for America is not simply based on envy of her freedom and wealth, but for her policies.
What that means is due to her indifference to Arab/ Muslim lives and properties when they are destroyed by war planes, ammunitions and bullets supplied to the Israeli soldiers.
The injustice felt by the Palestinians and Arabs-Israeli citizens treated as second class in their own country.
Israeli’s continuing and persistent utter disregard to Security Council resolutions backed by America’s veto also bread extremism.
Muslims are unfairly treated and given bad press coverage as extremists; fundamentalists etc. for pitiful action of minority zealots, whilst not so when done by say ETA, IRA or other groups.
I am not afraid of speaking about my belief and patriotism.
Terrorism should and must be defeated through the auspices of United Nations General Assembly.
As a Muslim, I fully support my government’s right to self-defence, but I also see it imperative to pursue the killers of my fellow innocent countrymen and women by due process of law.
In doing so, she must not violate the rights and sanctity of others, because two wrongs do not make a right! Injustice is injustice and so are rights!
It is inevitable, actions will happen and that something will take place in the next few days ahead and what type of action remains to be seen.
Whatever happens, let us hope that it would be beneficial to world peace and that it would serve as a wake-up call to the larger Muslim-World and let us learn from there.
The New World Order (NOW) has too many ramifications; let America engage the rest of the world in solving the Arabs-Israelis conflict.
Under the New Re-Arranged World Order, let the larger nations of the world community take control of global peace and order rather than leaving things to the United States.
With September 11 attacks, I hope America would now see the urgent need to work with other nations in solving contemporary world issues as equal partners.
Consequently, the moral option is very compelling. The moral has implications namely, for US to preserve freedom and wealth, she must use her power wisely and equitably. Cry, outrage and demand justice when she finds herself killed and attack in the inferno following the WTC and DC horrific attacks, but share the same when your very policies led to the death of thousands Palestinians, Iraqis and probably not so long away Afghanistan people.
