Dear Sir,

Re: Building needs private cash – 26/07/2001

Please permit me to contribute in the on-going debate over the future of Clerkenwell Green, Finsbury Town Hall and the Public Hall in Islington Town Hall.

Quite frankly, the answer lies at hands of private sector participation if they are to stand any chance of purposeful service to the community.

I am also in the opinion that council must not rush into haste decision without proper and adequate consultation with the public on the way forward, if they did at their perish.

At the same time, any delay in the decision-making process could lead to mounting cost in the future, by way of council tax rise, something the council can ill-afford.

It is highly imperative to engage the private sector in the financing and rehabilitation of the buildings by way of injecting huge investment capital for public usage.

This marriage can be done, it is a mutual marriage between private and public sector, it is not something new, in fact it has happened before and it can happen again just as it did with great success in some of our major trading partners.
I have no doubt that here in Islington, we can achieve the same good result, provided it is handled with great care!

It is reasonable to assume that good leadership begets good support; it is time to display bold-exuberant leadership in order to solve some of the mounting problems facing Islington. That is not possible unless there is will and determination!

Yours truly,
